The “Shan Rozz and Ris Show” Prank

April 2, 2010

It turned out that the “Shan Rozz and Ris Show” is a joke.

Yes, that is right. Ris Low is not joining 987, neither is she co-hosting the show with Shan and Rozz. All along, they were just putting on an act. Shan and Rozz are back on the show! No more broken english damaging your ears. Everyone, cheers!

So, are you glad that Ris Low is gone? Or do you feel bad for dissing Ris? This is what Rozz commented on her face book account:

Rozz

“hey guys+gals: PLEASE BE NICE TO RIS FROM NOW ON. she’s been such a good sport. had so much UNNECESSARY INSULTS thrown at her and she took it all in good spirit. I think she deserves a huge hug. give her a break aight? not good to be hating on someone you DONT KNOW PERSONALLY. doesnt do anything for your personal well-being. have a good weekend! (…”

A good prank indeed. But i think it may be too much for Ris Low.

Firstly, i would like to apologise (even though my previous post strongly said otherwise) to Ris Low. Yes, i know it is very contradicting.

I am at fault, for judging your personality,  solely based on what I have  heard from the radio only. Rozz is right, do not criticise anyone unless you know him/her in person. Ignore the rumours. It is actually very brave of Ris Low to sacrifice her reputation so as to make this prank a success. I would to express my regrets to her and hope that she may feel better.

Ris Low DJ-ing

However, there are some points that i want to make regarding this April Fool’s Day prank.

After seeing the comment made by “TS”  on the “TOTALLY BOOMZ” post, i did suspect that it may be a joke. Here are some loop holes:

1. It is rather unbelievable and strange (i did mentioned about this in my “TOTALLY BOOMZ” post) that a person who is absolutely fluent in Singlish can be a DJ in one of the most popular english radio station in Singapore.

2. 987 did not give a proper or official explanation on the sudden change, despite the huge anger and negative feed backs raised (that is the purpose of the prank, though).

3. Even so, the statement made by 987’s Senior Creative Director, Georgina Chang, is completely unreasonable and illogical, especially when she is trusted formaking wise decisions and leading the station (to greater heights?) after Daniel Ong left:

Georgina Change, Senior Creative Director of 987fm

“She seems to evoke a very strong reaction from Singaporeans and the last time Shan and Rozz interviewed her, that stirred a lot of interest. I see it as a good way to pep up the evening show.”

4. The most suspicious one – the trailer made on April Fool’s Day:

There are cuts of how Ris pissed Rozz off, and finally, walking out of the station. Following, another cut of Rozz complaining on the Muttons show, who surprisingly appeared one day after not attending work. Then, in came Justin Ang’s voice, “tune in to the Shan Rozz and Ris show today afternoon, 4 to 8 p.m to find out more…”

It is rather insensitive of the Muttons to make a trailer just to remind the listeners on the “cat fight” happening in 987, despite receiving a “screw you Muttons!” from Rozz, the night before. Moreover, it is just not right for a radio to make a trailer on its internal conflict and to publicise it, and worse, making use of this situation, to draw more listeners to the station.

5. I was tuning in to AM Jam on the day itself. Right after this trailer was played, Mister Young and Miss Vandetta announced that their boss will be making a final decision on this whole situation, putting  an “end” to this matter.

Along with the trailer, isn’t it coincidental that they are trying to make more people to tune in to the show? On April Fool’s Day? So as to surprise them with a

BOOMZ!…HAPPY APRIL FOOL’S DAY!!”

Am I right?

6. Last but not least, the reasons Ris gave for being late on the first day, changed constantly. From getting caught in a heavy rain, to falling asleep on bus, and to making her hair (nobody cares if you look glamorous on a radio show, because the listeners can’t see you!). And the dumbest of them all – misreading 1600 hours for 6 p.m.

However, here are some remarkable notes that are worthy of our praise:

1. There are numerous twists, and dramas happening, which made the whole plot really exciting.

2. The two posts on Ris’ blog, expressing her dislike towards Rozz. This totally convinced me. And this explains my stand on the previous article, “Rozz Pissed Off By Ris”.

3. I am uncertain if the other DJs are aware of this prank too. If otherwise, then i would like to say a job well done to Shan, Rozz, Ris and the whole team behind this “probably the best April Fool’s Day prank in Singapore.” Because it is definitely hard for them to keep the truth from their colleagues, and of course, the whole of Singapore, for three days!

4. Last but not least, you guys caught so many people completely off guard!

987, Only the Hits

Once again, 987 never fails to entertain me. And that is why I love the station. (:

Well, they sure got us good… If you look at it from another angle, the prank might actually do good for Ris’ reputation for being such a good sport 😀
